The National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship (NCWWC) was founded in 2019 in response to the number of NCAA institutions adding women's wrestling to their roster. For 6 years, the NCWWC provided the pathway for NCAA member institutions to compete in an NCAA-only postseason tournament as they progressed towards official NCAA sport sponsorship.
