Hello World

Welcome to the wonderful world of wrestling (data) wrangling.

I, wrestleknownothing, will post everything I think I know about wrestling here in my little sandbox. You have been warned.

After investing a lot of time and effort into building the premier NCAA D1 NCAA Tournament results database it is time to put that work to work.

I got started playing around with wrestling data in 2020 (gee, what was happening then that I had a little extra time?). It began with a project to figure out what a seed at the tournament was really worth. The data I gathered was high level and crude, but it fit the purpose. Unfortunately, it fit pretty much just that purpose. I have attempted to push, prod, and poke that original data set ever since, but it has pretty much outlived its useful life at this point.

At about the same time I ran out of ideas with my original data, another poster on Intermat (grogs84) reached out to me to offer a more detailed, match-by-match dataset that covered 20+ years. Yes, please, and thank you.

Then a little while later Wrestling.Guru pinged me to say he was gathering all ~100 years of tournament data and asked if I had any of it already. Serendipity. The three of us decided to merge our efforts and the result is what you see here on Wrestling.Guru’s website.

So let’s have some fun playing with data about the sport we love.

Yours in Analysis,

WKN
